Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) is pleased to announce that its flagship Waste Free Environment (WFE) campaign has extended its global reach to three continents.
Now in its 5th edition, WFE is set to take place in various locations worldwide between 26 February and 2 March, 2017.
For the first time this year, activities will take place in Sri Lanka and Australia, in addition to Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE.
WFE is a GPCA initiative aimed at raising awareness about littering and its impacts through education and outreach, as well as educating society about the importance of recycling.
This year, special activities have been organized with the support of GPCA members and their partners, to showcase the benefits of plastics and the growing role they play in people’s everyday life.
Volunteers from all nationalities, age and backgrounds will come together to learn about recycling and the importance to protect the environment.
The 2016 edition of WFE resulted in more than 179 tons of waste being collected, attracting 11,787 participants and 73 schools and universities from the GCC and the globe.
For the fourth year in a row WFE witnessed growth in both plastic waste collection and participation, with the latter growing at CAGR of 67% since the campaign was launched.
The initiative also expanded into Europe and Asia, with events taking place in China, India, The Netherlands and Singapore.
In recognition of its success, WFE was awarded ‘Best CSR Initiative of the Year’ by the Oil & Gas Middle East and Refining and Petrochemicals Middle East Awards.
This is a recognition of the collective effort of all participants and GPCA would like to thank its members who invested their time and energy to make WFE a success.
