GPCA holds two strategic meetings in MarchGPCA held its Annual General Assembly (AGM) and All Committee Meeting (ACM) on 12-13 March in the Oberoi Hotel, Dubai.

Industry experts, business leaders and members of GPCA’s six working committees: Plastics, Supply Chain, Fertilizers, International Trade, Research & Innovation and Responsible Care, attended the first day of the event to discuss strategic objectives for the association in 2017, in addition to highlighting some of the key milestones achieved as a result of the hard work and efforts of the association and its members.

Yousef Al-Benyan, Vice Chairman and CEO of SABIC, and GPCA Chairman, addressed the audience in his opening remarks, thanking the committees for their valuable contribution to the association and its success.

He was followed on stage by Abdulaziz Alhajri, Vice Chairman of GPCA, and Refining and Petrochemicals Director, ADNOC, who delivered a presentation highlighting key accomplishment from 2014-2016 and setting the strategic objectives for the new calendar year.

The Annual General Assembly took place on the following day, starting with a public session by speaker Dave Witte, Senior Vice President at IHS Markit and General Manager of Oil, Midstream, Downstream & Chemicals, who provided “An Overview of the Issues and Drivers of the Global Chemical Industry”.

In line with its tradition, GPCA released its 2016 Annual Report, which highlighted membership growth in 2016, number of attendees at GPCA events, publications released and key milestones achieved across GPCA initiatives. A special section entitled ‘Arabian Gulf Industry: Year in review’ offered an overview of the regional industry during the past year, and the new projects announced by GCC producers in the Middle East and abroad.

Some of the key topics discussed during this year’s ACM and AGM included GPCA and its role in driving the sustainable growth of the regional industry, and the importance of teamwork and collaboration when working in a cross-functional environment.

Furthermore, former committee members were recognized for their contribution to GPCA and awarded a special trophy. The annual event concluded with a ‘thank you’ note by GPCA Chairman who – in line with this year’s theme ‘Integrate. Collaborate. Grow.’ – encouraged attendees to continue to work together to overcome common challenges.
