The third edition of GPCA’s IP Awareness Workshop reaped huge success as over 60 regional and global industry experts attended the event.

The workshop, held in partnership with Saudi Aramco, was dedicated to the practice and implementation of Intellectual Property (IP), as well as the important issues of protecting IP in the region and around the world.

IP strategists and lawyers, industry professionals, innovators and researchers attended the event to share knowledge, network and exchange best global practices in the field of intellectual property.

Day 1 speakers included Dr. Abdulwahab Al Sadoun, Secretary General, GPCA; and several Saudi Aramco experts including Kwadjo Adusei-Poku, Lead IP Counsel; Mike Sellers, IP Counsel; Jay Farmer, Director of Innovation at Aramco Performance Materials; Geoffrey Rogers, IP Counsel,

Farmer presented on the topic of ‘IP strategy through the eyes of a start-up’, while Rogers discussed the issue of regulating and monitoring IP practices online. Day one concluded with a discussion about important IP considerations when going public.

On Day 2, December 11 Martijn Vogelzang, Senior Manager Licensing, SABIC, presented on the topic of patent licensing. The workshop concluded with a presentation by Dr. Samantha Horseman, Team Leader, Human Energy Management, Saudi Aramco, entitled ‘Innovation initiatives at Saudi Aramco and in KSA’.

Now in its third year, the workshop took place on 10-11 December in Le Meridien Al Khobar, Corniche Boulevard, Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
