The workshop took place on 29-30 October in Muscat, Oman under the theme ‘Achieving Excellence Through Responsible Care Codes’
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association held a workshop entitled ‘Achieving Excellence Through Responsible Care Codes’ on 29-30 October at the Crowne Plaza, Muscat, Oman.
The two-day event was especially designed to create awareness about the GPCA Responsible Care® codes of management practices (COMP), which were revised in January this year, and enhance the knowledge of company professionals, while identifying key challenges and opportunities for more effective implementation.
68 delegates attended the event, where senior industry professionals and subject matter experts shared the latest updates on the revised codes and first-hand insight into effective implementation strategies from across the Arabian Gulf.
Ahmed Saleh Al Jahdhami, CEO, Orpic, delivered the opening address at the event. He was followed by Adil Majid, NATPET, and Chairman, Responsible Care Codes Committee and member, GPCA Responsible Care Committee. Speakers comprised of senior industry leaders from SABIC, Saudi Aramco, RSA-Talke, Borouge, Frabai Petrochemicals Company and GPCA.
Sessions one and two were split between the newly revised codes covering community awareness, distribution, product stewardship, security, health and safety, process safety and environmental protection.
The highlight of the workshop was a group exercise carefully designed to help participants share best practices against the codes’ requirements; the outcome of the exercise was discussed on the second day of the event.
The newly developed COMP online self-assessment tool was also covered in more detail. GPCA member companies are due for self-assessment in November 2018.
